I’ve spent the past couple of days trying to organize my images. I have a LOT of different images. Some I have posted here, some I have posted on my website, some on HDRSpotting.com, some are sold by local art dealers and gift shops. Most just sit forgotten on my hard drives hoping to be discovered. I am trying to bring order to this chaos . Not an easy task for me. I will be the first to admit I am organizationally challenged. An additional benefit of reviewing all these old images is I keep discovering photos that I had forgotten. This is one such image. I photographed this one evening when I was pulling some images together for Midwest Living Magazine. They were looking for images of 6th Street for an article on Austin so I thought I would shoot some fresh shots to try & get the sale. They actually ended up using another of my 6th street photos I shot that same evening. You can see that photo here.

Sixth Street in Austin Texas is known an one of the great streets in the world to go party. Every year during the international music festival ‘South by Southwest’ it is even more so. This year (2010) St. Patrick’s day fell during SXSW to add even more fuel to the party.

John Street with Rokinon 85 on D3s

I’ve wanted a longer lens to photograph this street for quite a while. Even my 24-70mm ƒ/2.8 wasn’t quite long enough, but the 85mm is just right.
Still can’t believe this lens cost 0 brand new.

6th Street Action in Austin Texas

Sixth Street in Austin Texas is always a lively place. During the day their are numerous shops and great places to enjoy lunch or just a cup of coffee. Daytime on Sixth Street in fun, however the real action starts after the sun goes down and the music comes out. After all, 6th Street is pretty much the music epicenter of the "Live Music Capitol of the World" aka Austin Texas. You can see my other Austin shots here.

Street Scenes from South by Southwest

You may want to go ahead and see the big size… !
South by Southwest is a huge music, film, and interactive festival down here in Austin. People from all over the world come here to what has become known as the music capitol of the world. Many streets shut down for all kinds of interesting activity. I went out an evening ago to get some shots of some of the action on the streets to share with you all. I usually don’t do these sorts of shots, but I wanted to mix it up a little so you could see a local slice of life right here in my hometown!

Daily Photo – The Harleyfest on 6th Street
This is one of the best times in Austin for HDR Photography! I really think it’s perfect perfect conditions to really show off what this style of photography can do. Long exposures just don’t do the trick. The wonderful thing about being there is that the human eye really can see all these colors and light levels at the same time. At least… to those of us that see like this. I’m convinced that after talking to countless groups that not everyone "sees" in the same way. It’s not that one way is better than another – just different. What do you think?

The annual creative explosion of SXSW is about to begin again in Austin Texas. Every year at this time thousands of Music, Film & Interactive creative professionals & their fans decend upon Austin from around the world. It’s a fun time in our little town.
This shot of Sixth street was taken last year during SXSW. Just for fun I did a little tilt-shift focus manipulation to give it that toy-land feel.
