The Restaurant in Tokyo that Inspired that crazy scene from Kill Bill

(orig size is cool too!)
When I was in Tokyo, I had a great time out with Altus! He stayed with me here in Austin, and we were able to meet up for a fun time of photography out in Tokyo. That’s one of the BEST things about having a blog, I must say! It gives me the chance to meet all kinds of nice people like YOU that extend gracious invitations for photography!
After dark, Altus took me to this cool restaurant. The manager was very nice and let us sit where we wanted and then a carte-blanche for taking photos. He asked if I would send him photos and if I charge… and I told him no… I do this stuff for fun! So, we have a smart and well-movied community here – who can tell me the name of this restaurant?
Peachpit definitely has the sample from my book up on their website now. Just click on "Sample Content" and you’ll be in good shape. There are some very good tips just in that 20 pages!

London Eye from the Westminster Bridge

Austin Photographer John R. Rogers shot this photograph. Check out the website JohnRRogers.com for more information & please make a comment .
I’ve been fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit London several times and I always enjoy my visits. This is the view from the Westminster bridge looking across to the London Eye. If you have never been there, even with the scale of the multi-story building standing to it’s right, it’s hard to get a perspective how large the Eye actually is. It’s about 40 stories tall and each of the capsules holds about two dozen people. The post in the foreground is actually part of the Westminster Bridge. If you check out one of my previous post with a view of the House of Commons (here) you can see this bridge on the right side of the frame and the posts on top of each bridge column.

Street Scenes from South by Southwest

You may want to go ahead and see the big size… !
South by Southwest is a huge music, film, and interactive festival down here in Austin. People from all over the world come here to what has become known as the music capitol of the world. Many streets shut down for all kinds of interesting activity. I went out an evening ago to get some shots of some of the action on the streets to share with you all. I usually don’t do these sorts of shots, but I wanted to mix it up a little so you could see a local slice of life right here in my hometown!

The new Austin skyline is finally getting to a point where a photograph doesn’t appear to obviously be a "work in progress". I love this particular view of Austin. The arch at the Long Center for the Performing Arts frames the city perfectly. There is nothing like enjoying a great performance there and then stepping out on the patio during intermission and enjoying the view.

The Rocket Bar in Austin, and a visit from RC Concepcion

This is a photo of a strange place on South Congress. I was down at a restaurant in the area and I saw this when I was walking back to my car. As usual, I had my tripod and camera ready, so I set up for a shot. It was actually a store that sold all kinds of pop art and a lot of neon. I thought it looked cool through the frosted glass. Any of you Austinites know the name of this place?
Also, recently I had the pleasure of hanging out with RC Concepcion when he came down to Austin to host a photo-editing seminar along with Dave Cross in Austin. Here is RC’s HDR he shot here in Austin. I found out he was coming to Austin on Twitter, so we tweeted up a little get-together in a well-orchestrated 140-character tennis match. We went out to shoot the SRV statue in the rain, ate a leisurely dinner full of philosophical thoughts, and then I had him over to show him the "Stuck in Motion" video over at my home before it was released. I was happy that this guy, the know-it-all (in a good way) host of Layers TV could not even figure it out! BTW, if you are looking to bone up on all your Adobe products, be sure to watch some Layers TV or subscribe to the free video podcast in iTunes.

Lake Austin From Above

I took this about four hours ago over Lake Austin. There is a little trail that runs up a cliffside about 50 feet over the river.
