Pray for Rain

Had a really great time photowalking Austin yesterday with about 100 or so other photographers. Austin is HOT this time of year and I loved it when two of my favorite women on G+, +Natalie Villalobos and +Lotus Carroll showed up for the walk in their great summer print dresses.
We walked along the river where there was lots of evidence of the drought that’s affected this area. Supposedly it is the worst drought in Austin in over 100 years. Next to a parched dead fountain with cracked earth were this plants that reminded me of corn stalks and I posed Natalie and Lotus here.
After a hot morning later yesterday afternoon it dumped buckets of much needed rain all over Austin while we were all at the Austin City Limits Music Festival. It felt so good to have the rain coming down in the heat.
Thanks again to +Richard Binhammer and +Peter Tsai and everyone from Dell and +Natalie Villalobos, +Dave Cohen, +Vincent Mo and +Chris Chabot and everyone from Google for helping sponsor this walk. Thanks also to +Alvin Toro for coming up with the great MROC bags too.
+Robert Scoble who co-hosted the walk with me and I go back a long ways. It was fun to reminisce about our very first photowalk when it was just him and I back in 2006 before anyone did photowalks. We’ve come a long way since then.
Our sponsors came up with some great prizes and I was thrilled to see that +jack hollingsworth’s daughter Emma won the top prize on a photo from an iPhone. It was a great reminder for so many of us who spend thousands of dollars on DSLR gear that in the end it still comes down to the creative spark and a photographer’s eye more than expensive or fancy gear.
If you were at the walk and are G+ be sure to leave a comment on this post with a link to one of your photos from the walk if you have one up yet. I want to be sure to check out your photos and also add everyone who was there to my photowalking circle.
I had a blast, thanks again to everyone who made this walk possible. Looking forward to the next one!
Gorgeous!
Those plants are insane. It’s like corn stalks and banana plants were breeding.
hahah it is NOT hot in Austin right now. July and August were hot.
Sounds like a lot of fun, and it’s a lovely shot — good thing those two ladies didn’t show up in the same dress!!
