Lake Austin From Above

I took this about four hours ago over Lake Austin. There is a little trail that runs up a cliffside about 50 feet over the river.

Looks like it was taken with a 50mm f/0.5 doesn’t it.
This bokeh panorama (see more with this technique) consists of 25 frames, and was created to achieve an impossibly shallow depth of field. I didn’t have very much room to back up, and I wanted *some* detail in the background, so I decided to go ahead and try a bokeh panorama with the 50mm f/1.2. It is generally advised to use a longer lens so that there is less positional distortion, but if you’re careful don’t don’t go too crazy, you can make it work. In order to combat that, I made sure to overlap more than usual so there were *plenty* of reference points to correct for distortion.
But ta-da! The Pub is where they had their first date, so it only seemed fitting to start the session there. I should also mention they frequent this place so much that she has a drink named after her…

Hamilton Pool

Check here for the latest version of this image.
Hamilton Pool is one of the best kept secrets in Central Texas. It took me 10 years to find it but I’m very glad I did. The place is a spectacular circular swimming hole half covered over by the massive remains of the previous cave’s roof. It’s pretty tricky to photograph and this image is actually a composite of 4 shots taken with different exposures.

Santana Row

Santana Row is Private Property, Son.
I was hassled by security for taking this photo using professional photography gear on private property without permission from the marketing department. A lesson learned: take photos first, ask questions later.
Another lesson learned: HDR at long exposures with more than 3 exposures really helps clear out the ghosts with very few artifacts.
A speculation: I do not think it is legal for Santana Row employees to deny you the right to take photographs in this public space, regardless of whether it is on private property. See comments for links…

Shores on the road to Hope

In the summer of 2007 I went to visit my aunt Wendy in Anchorage Alaska for the second time. I took a lot of photos while I was there but I only posted a few of them. Today I was organizing my photos and found some that I liked but had not posted, such as this photo that I took on our way to Hope. I’ll probably be posting more soon.
This was linked on the front page of www.digg.com on Feb 29, 2008.
Check out more of my popular HDR photos.
I appreciate all of your comments! However, comments with images in them will be deleted, so please refrain from embedding awards and other images.
