Upcoming Speaking Engagements
I just finished a fun one on Sunday night for the Austin Photography Group. It was a very enthusiastic crowd and I was happy to meet many of them and talk about HDR Photography. Here are some other upcoming ones.
Google – In early February, I was invited to come out to the Google HQ to give a talk for their Authors@Google program. I do not think that it is open to the public, but it will be recorded to be put online to be shared with everyone. I’ll let you know when it comes available!
Ignite Austin – Jan 13 – I believe this event is totally sold out, but you may still be able to get in… or show up and fight your way in!
Art Institute of Austin – Jan 14 – This sounds like a great group of people, and we’ll be able to get a bit more in depth into the artistic side of things. Or, at least that is my hope! I look forward to meeting you all!
Daily Photo – Entering the Fjord
Sometimes I get annoyed when I make a wrong turn, but not this time! I was trying to find a remote place in the far northern part of Iceland, and I ended up going the wrong way. Before I knew it, I was several miles deep into this fjord, but I could not bring myself to turn around. It was too interesting and pretty!
The next day, I ended up finding the right way to go, but with white-out snow conditions, the road was sketchy. VERY sketchy. It was one of those situations where I was just inching along, scared witless, and giant trucks would occasionally blow by me at 60 km/h! I was thinking… Jeez, these Icelanders are crazy!

In the Lake

Same lake as previously posted shot; this time of Austin looking for crayfish.
Cool thing is you can catch them then *cook* them in the thermal-hot sands on the beach, then eat them (they get all nice and red)! Talk about eco-friendly eating; all you need is a net!
Non-HDR shot taken with my Lumix point-n-shoot on the shore of Lake Kussharo.
Hokkaido, Japan.
**Be sure to checkout the maplink on this page to see how remote this place is.

Reflecting Pools

McKinney Falls State Park, Austin, TX
This image was taken close to lower McKinney Falls. While this image does not show it, there was actually a large amount of water going over the falls, which is the first time I actually saw any kind of falls at the park. In my previous visits, there usually was only a trickle of water. I plan to post photographs of the falls in the future. For today image, I like how these small pools of water reflected the last bit of light.
The Deep River in Austin

This spot is about 5 minutes from my house. Why don’t I go up here every night for sunset? I don’t know. I really don’t have a good excuse, because every time I go up there, I come away with something different.
On this night, I walked up there with my son right after the sun dropped below the horizon and we watched the day turn to night together. One of the planets was brightly lit (Venus?) and appeared right above that cool-lookin tree that sits atop. People from Austin know the one I’m talkin’ about.

Street Scenes from South by Southwest

You may want to go ahead and see the big size… !
South by Southwest is a huge music, film, and interactive festival down here in Austin. People from all over the world come here to what has become known as the music capitol of the world. Many streets shut down for all kinds of interesting activity. I went out an evening ago to get some shots of some of the action on the streets to share with you all. I usually don’t do these sorts of shots, but I wanted to mix it up a little so you could see a local slice of life right here in my hometown!

Green Fins in Austin

See how cool American cars used to be? And then they started getting designed by committees and focus groups and marketing experts… Did anyone see that Simpsons episode with Poochie the dog? I think about that episode a lot whenever I see a boring product flounder its way onto the scene.
Anyway, none of that has anything to do with anything… other than just as a talking point when looking back at old American cars and how much personality they used to have. This was shot at a classic car show here in Austin, which is always a great place to take the tripod for some HDR goodness…
