I was fascinated by Nathan Singleton’s selection of quote and symbolic tattoos. The quote on his lower abs is “the act of love is a confession,” from Albert Camus’ The Fall. On his left arm, “when we love, a sap older than time rises through our arms,” by poet, Rainer Maria Rilke. Not shown, his f-hole tattoos on each tricep to match the ones on his guitar.
Nathan Singleton and The Sideshow Tragedy are playing August 19th at Guero’s, regularly at Momo’s, and will be going on a tour starting in October.

Eleanor Whitmore is making the boxes for her new CD by hand. I have to say, I wish all CDs came this way. At first, I didn’t realize it was a DIY job, it just looked and felt very unique. I don’t know how many of these promo releases for airplanes are going out this way, but if you’re an industry person, you might get lucky enough to get your hands on one. This will probably become a collector’s item. And, the music inside is amazing.
Chris Masterson (Jack Ingram, Son Volt, etc.) produced the record and performs on it. He’s done an incredible job. The music stays fresh and I find new layers of sound to appreciate each time I listen to it. There is something so unique, yet accessible about the sound — I wouldn’t be surprised if some of these songs popped up on one of those cool independent movie soundtracks. Very cool.
Below is a shot of Chris and Eleanor at Flipnotics before they moved out to NYC.

I had a lot of fun hanging out and enjoying some awesome pizza with Drew Smith and the band. We were doing some photos for the band website and afterward, I did a few quick basic band shots for fun. Gotta thank those people at Austin Pizza Garden for their great service and tolerance of a rowdy bunch of guys.

Rachel Lynn and Matt Giles played at Whole Foods in downtown Austin this evening.
